My favorite interest of all time is being a rock hound, more specifically an agate hound, since I feel I was practically raised on the Saint Croix River. For those of you who might not know what an agate is, it is a type of chalcedony rock form that is created by ancient volcanic lava, and was distributed to the Saint Croix valley by glaciers. To show just how enthusiastic I am about agates I jumped in a car with my dad and drove up to Moose Lake, MN to participate in Moose Lake Agate Days. Once there we searched through piles of dusty rocks spanning the whole length of the main street just to find an agate. It was an awe-inspiring experience to be up there with my dad and all the other rock hounds. I guess the whole part of looking for rocks is just the enjoyment I feel when wading through the water along with sorting through washed up rocks on the beach and the feeling of surprise when I stumble across a true jewel out in the natural elements.
Boating is a big part of my lifestyle. I could say my body craves it. Being raised by the St. Croix River in Stillwater, MN what better way to spend your Summer. My Dad has a saying when the river is a calm mesmerizing sheet of glass it is telling him to ski me. This calmness gives a true inner feeling of being one with the water when reaching down to touch it while waterskiing. Besides the fast side of boating their is the relaxation side called a pontoon. A pontoon gives us the ability to take a slow cruise, have a barbecue and enjoy a bigger platform to jump off of and swim. Both tell interesting stories as to how I view the whole open water fulfillment of boating.
One of my unique interests includes playing trading card games. The idea of playing games such as Yugioh, Pokémon, Chaotic, and MTG or Magic The Gathering gives a great feeling of being able to learn strategies and tactics to out smart your opponent. So, to further my competiveness I joined the Tabletop Games Club on the campus of River Falls. This atmosphere on campus allowed for some pretty intense and emotional games with my fellow new friends and members that lasted up to an hour or longer.
